That's right, the online retail juggernaut will be putting their A-to-Z motto to the test by producing their own movies. Amazon Studios will be developing 3 movies picked from a submission pool of 600 movies and over 6,000 scripts as their debut into Hollywood. And if you think they're starting slow by going the heartfelt indie route then you, sir or madam, would be wrong. It appears that they are going head-to-head with Lionsgate and SyFy with some high-concept sci-fi and horror flicks - which I hope are of better quality than the other two movie houses I just mentioned.
Touching Blue
Denise Di Novi of Crazy, Stupid, Love will produce this movie written by Scott Mullen. What sounds like Unbreakable meets the TV show Medium and a healthy dose of Silence of the Lambs, the story will revolve around a woman who has the power to track people down by touching the things that they touched. But her gift may be more of a curse as she also experiences extreme pain any time someone touches her. She teams up with the FBI to track down a serial killer and will undoubtedly have to face her own demons in tracking them down..
Original Soldiers
Bill Gerber (Gran Torino) will producing this feature film based on a short created by the Amazon Studios team. Kind of a sci-fi take on The Expendables, an old-school strike force is tasked with saving humankind after their robotic defense is disabled. No writer has been attached yet, but they will have to choose between a group of over 1,000 pitches. Not sure if they're fending off aliens or robots or other humans, but sounds interesting.
Children of Others
Edward Saxon, who is most known for producing Silence of the Lambs, will help develop this movie written by Amazon's Best Script Award winner Barrington Smith-Seetachit. Equally unique and familiar at the same time, this story involves a woman who visits a fertility clinic desperate to have a child before it's too late. But soon into her pregnancy she suspects that she may be carrying an alien baby... the first of what might be an all-out attack on the world. What's a mom to do?
