British director Guy Ritchie proved with his version of Sherlock Holmes that he could helm a blockbuster movie - although his indie thuggish Brit flicks are what put him on the map. He is a rare combination of outstanding visual director and engaging writer and once he dropped Madonna, he got his mojo back. This sequel has Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.) and his faithful counterpart Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) up against their arch nemesis Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) whose plot seems to be world destruction. Traditionalists in the Arthur Conan Doyle series may cringe at the liberties they take, but I for one have seen enough literal adaptations of his work. One part I think Guy does so well is capturing the intricate mind of the famous detective and all of the details he absorbs that others simply do not. Even as a movie aficionado I rarely spend the $10+ to go see a movie in the theater, but for this movie I am counting down the days to throw my money at them... and once you see this trailer, you probably will, too!
